I am Rohan Mehta, a digital marketing consultant from Pune, India. I recently set up my Dubai Mainland company to serve clients across the GCC region and, as a startup, I want to keep my banking costs low. I am considering opening a business account with First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB). Does FAB provide a zero balance business account, or is there a minimum balance requirement that I need to maintain?
Hello Rohan,
I am Shilpa Senior Banking Expert at DhanGuard Consultancy, and I'd be happy to assist you. With over 5 years of experience in UAE business setup and having successfully assisted numerous entrepreneurs and companies from around the world, I specialize in helping clients navigate company formation, banking, and compliance requirements in the UAE.
At present, First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) does not have a standard business account that operates on a zero-balance basis. For most companies, the bank's Business Basic Account requires customers to maintain an average monthly balance of AED 10,000.
If the account balance remains below the required threshold, FAB may apply a monthly service charge as per its prevailing banking tariff.
You may have come across FAB's zero-balance offerings, such as iSave or Salary Transfer accounts, but these products are designed for individual customers and are generally not available for corporate entities.
If your priority is finding a business account with no minimum balance commitment, there are other banking options in the UAE that may be more suitable, including Mashreq NeoBiz, which offers a zero-balance account for eligible businesses.
Please note that banks regularly revise their account features, pricing structures, and eligibility requirements. For this reason, we always recommend confirming the latest terms before submitting an application.
Our team at DhanGuard can help you compare different banking options and guide you through the entire UAE business account opening process.
Hi,
FAB Business Bank Account, does not generally offer a true zero-balance corporate or business current account. Its standard business packages normally require you to maintain a minimum average monthly balance, with the requirement depending on the account tier.
FAB Business Account Requirements
|
FAB Business Account |
Minimum Average Monthly Balance |
|
Business Basic |
AED 10,000 |
|
Business Advantage |
AED 250,000 |
|
Preferred Business |
AED 500,000 |
The Business Basic Account is therefore the more accessible option for smaller businesses, but it still has a balance requirement. If you fall below the applicable threshold, a fall-below fee may apply.
It's also worth noting that FAB may run zero-fee promotions on selected digital or electronic transfers, but that does not mean the business account itself has a zero minimum balance.
What About FAB's Zero-Balance Accounts?
FAB does have personal digital products, such as iSave, that can operate without a minimum balance. However, these are personal accounts and cannot be used as a substitute for a corporate business account.
If maintaining a large balance is a concern, I'd recommend comparing FAB with UAE banks and digital business platforms that specifically offer zero-minimum-balance corporate packages. Also compare the monthly subscription or maintenance fee, transaction charges, and international transfer costs before deciding.
