Hi, I’m Faisal Rahman from Bangladesh. I’ve recently incorporated a company in Abu Dhabi and am planning to open a business bank account with First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB). Before I visit the bank, I’d like to know what documents I should prepare. Is there a standard checklist for company documents, shareholder KYC, and business proof?
I’m Shilpa from DhanGuard Consultancy, and over the past five years, I've helped numerous entrepreneurs establish their businesses in the UAE and prepare for the business bank account opening process.
FAB Business Bank Account, follows a detailed due diligence process, so it's important to have all your documents ready before submitting the application. In most cases, you'll need the following:
Corporate Documents
- Valid UAE Trade License (Mainland or Free Zone).
- Certificate of Incorporation.
- Memorandum and Articles of Association (MOA/AOA).
- Company Share Certificate.
Proof of Office Address
The bank will also ask for proof that your business has a registered office in the UAE. This can be:
- Ejari tenancy contract.
- Office lease agreement.
- Recent utility bill.
Shareholder & Authorized Signatory Documents
For every director, partner, and authorized signatory, FAB generally requires:
- Valid passport copy.
- UAE Residence Visa (if applicable).
- Emirates ID (for UAE residents).
Authorization Documents
If required by your company structure, you'll also need:
- Board Resolution authorizing the opening of the bank account.
- Power of Attorney (POA), where applicable.
Financial & Business Supporting Documents
To help the bank understand your business, you may also be asked to provide:
- Company profile explaining your activities.
- Business plan (especially for startups).
- Three to six months of corporate bank statements for existing businesses.
In my experience, FAB places considerable emphasis on understanding how a business operates, not just whether it is legally registered. Having a well-prepared company profile and supporting business documents can make the compliance review much smoother and reduce the chances of additional document requests.
I’m Deepak, and if you’re planning to open a First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) business account in the UAE, it’s important to have both your company documents and personal KYC documents ready. FAB may also ask for evidence of your business activity during its compliance review.
Company Legal Documents
- Valid Trade License: Issued by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) or a UAE Free Zone authority.
- MOA / AOA: Memorandum and Articles of Association showing the company’s ownership and structure.
- Certificate of Incorporation: Proof that the company is legally registered.
- Share Certificate: Required where applicable to confirm ownership percentages.
- Board Resolution: Authorizing the opening of the bank account and identifying the authorized signatories.
Personal Identification Documents
- Passport Copies: For all shareholders, directors, partners, and authorized signatories.
- Emirates ID: Valid Emirates ID copies for UAE-resident shareholders or signatories.
- Residence Visa: UAE visa copies where applicable.
Proof of Business Operations
FAB may also request supporting documents to understand the nature and legitimacy of your business, such as:
- Office Address Proof: Ejari, tenancy contract, office lease, or utility bill.
- Company Profile or Business Plan: Information about your activities, expected customers, suppliers, and business model.
- Bank Statements: Recent corporate or personal bank statements, generally covering 3–6 months, if available.
- Commercial Documents: Contracts, invoices, purchase orders, or other evidence of ongoing or expected business activity may also be requested.
One Important Point
Submitting the documents does not automatically guarantee account approval. FAB conducts its own KYC and compliance checks, and the bank may request additional information depending on the company's activity, ownership structure, expected transactions, and source of funds.
For a smoother application, I recommend preparing the trade license, incorporation documents, ownership details, IDs, office proof, and business activity evidence before starting the application.
