Hi, I’m Farhan Malik from Saudi Arabia. I recently incorporated a consulting company in Dubai and am planning to open a business account with Al Hilal Bank. Before proceeding, I would like to know what documents are required for the account opening process. Are there any additional requirements for foreign shareholders?

I’m Shilpa from DhanGuard Consultancy, and I’ve spent the last five years helping entrepreneurs and international investors with company formation and business banking across the UAE. Based on our experience, Al Hilal Bank generally requires the following documents to open a business bank account:

Company Documents

  • Valid UAE Trade License or Certificate of Incorporation.
  • Memorandum of Association (MOA) and Articles of Association (AOA).
  • Share Certificates, if applicable.
  • Proof of business address, such as an Ejari tenancy contract, flexi-desk agreement, or utility bill.

Shareholder & Signatory Documents

  • Passport copies of all shareholders, partners, and authorized signatories.
  • Emirates ID and Residence Visa copies for UAE residents.
  • Last six months' bank statements of the shareholders or the existing company.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) of the principal shareholders and signatories.

Business Supporting Documents

  • Board Resolution or Power of Attorney authorizing the account opening and the designated signatories.
  • Company profile, business plan, or website explaining your business activities.
  • Copies of invoices, supplier and customer details, agreements, or contracts demonstrating business operations.

For foreign investors, the bank may ask for additional information regarding the source of funds, expected transaction volumes, and the nature of the business. The exact requirements can vary depending on the company's activity and ownership structure.

One piece of advice I always give clients is to prepare more than just the incorporation documents. Having a professional website, a detailed company profile, and supporting business documents can significantly improve the chances of a smooth and successful account opening.

Hi,

To open a business bank account with Al Hilal Bank in the UAE, you'll generally need your company's incorporation documents, identification papers for the owners and authorised signatories, and evidence of your business address and operations.

Company Documents

You should keep the following ready:

  • Valid UAE Trade License
  • Certificate of Incorporation
  • Memorandum of Association (MOA)
  • Articles of Association (AOA)
  • Board Resolution authorising the opening and operation of the business account

Identity Documents

Al Hilal Bank may require documents for all relevant shareholders, directors, UBOs, and authorised signatories, including:

  • Valid passport copies
  • Emirates ID
  • UAE residence visa copies, where applicable

Proof of Business & Operations

You may also need to provide:

  • Ejari or other proof of business address
  • Utility bill or other address verification, where requested
  • Business contracts or agreements
  • Recent bank statements
  • Other documents demonstrating genuine business activity and expected transactions

One practical tip is to keep your ownership documents and identification records consistent. The bank's KYC and compliance review may also involve questions about your business model, customers, suppliers, expected transaction volumes, and source of funds.

For a newly established company, having supporting documents such as signed contracts, invoices, a company profile, and a clear explanation of your planned operations can make the application more straightforward.

The exact document list can vary depending on your company structure, business activity, ownership profile, and the bank's current compliance requirements.
