Hi, I'm Sarah from the UK. I'm planning to incorporate a company in the UAE, but I don't have a UAE residence visa yet. Can I still open a corporate bank account?
Hi Sarah,
The good news is yes, a UAE residence visa is not always mandatory to open a business bank account. Many banks accept applications from non-resident business owners, provided the company is properly registered in the UAE and all compliance requirements are met.
As a non-resident founder, you'll generally need to provide:
- A valid UAE trade license and company incorporation documents.
- Memorandum of Association (MOA) or equivalent constitutional documents.
- Passport copies and proof of your residential address in your home country.
- Personal or business bank statements from your home country.
- A clear business profile explaining your activities, expected turnover, and source of funds.
That said, non-resident applications usually undergo more detailed compliance checks. Some banks may also require a higher minimum relationship balance compared to resident-owned businesses, depending on their internal policies.
If you later obtain a UAE residence visa and Emirates ID, banking generally becomes more straightforward. Many banks offer easier onboarding, access to corporate cheque books, business credit cards, and additional facilities such as trade finance and lending options to resident business owners.
We recently assisted a European entrepreneur who opened a UAE Free Zone company before relocating. Although he didn't have a residence visa initially, his account was approved after providing a comprehensive compliance file, including his overseas banking history and business plan. A few months later, once he became a UAE resident, he was able to upgrade his banking relationship and access additional corporate services.
My suggestion is not to delay your business plans simply because you don't have a residence visa yet. With the right documentation and the right banking strategy, many non-resident entrepreneurs successfully open UAE corporate accounts every year.
