Hi, I'm Rahul from India. I've heard that Indian nationals face extra scrutiny when opening business bank accounts in the UAE. Is that actually true?

Hi Rahul, This is one of the most common concerns I hear from entrepreneurs, and the simple answer is no. UAE banks do not apply additional scrutiny simply because you're an Indian national. Their decisions are based on compliance, documentation, and the risk profile of the business, not on nationality.

When reviewing a  business bank account application, banks typically focus on:

  • KYC verification: Valid passport, company documents, shareholder information, and identity checks.
  • Source of funds: Clear evidence showing where the business capital comes from.
  • Business substance: A genuine business setup with a clear operating model, office address, and expected business activity.

What usually causes delays isn't the applicant's nationality, it's issues such as:

  • Business transactions that don't match the licensed activity.
  • Missing invoices, contracts, or supporting documents.
  • Incomplete UBO (Ultimate Beneficial Owner) information.
  • Applications that don't clearly explain the company's expected business model or international transactions.

We've assisted many Indian founders in opening UAE business accounts successfully. In most cases, approvals moved smoothly because their documentation was complete and they could clearly demonstrate the nature of their business and expected source of income.

My advice is not to worry about your passport. Instead, focus on submitting a well-prepared application with accurate documents and a transparent business profile. That's what banks are primarily evaluating under the UAE's AML and KYC regulations.
