Hi, I'm Rehman Ahmed from Pakistan. I'm planning to start a business in the UAE. Which banks are actually accepting applications from Pakistani passport holders?
Hi Ahmed,
Yes, Pakistani passport holders can open business bank accounts in the UAE. Banks do not reject applications solely based on nationality. Approval depends on your residency status, company setup, business activity, and how well your application satisfies the bank's compliance requirements.
If you're a UAE resident with a valid residence visa and Emirates ID, you'll generally find more banking options available. Banks such as Mashreq, Emirates NBD, and RAKBANK regularly process applications from eligible Pakistani entrepreneurs, provided the required KYC and business documents are in order.
If you're applying as a non-resident, the process is more selective. Banks will usually request additional documents, including:
- A valid UAE trade license and company incorporation documents.
- Passport and overseas proof of address.
- Source of funds and personal banking history.
- A business profile explaining your planned activities in the UAE.
We've helped several Pakistani business owners establish companies in the UAE and successfully open corporate accounts. In most cases, the deciding factor wasn't nationality, it was having a transparent business model, complete documentation, and choosing a bank that matched the company's profile.
If you're still based in Pakistan, you may also come across options like Roshan Digital Accounts offered by banks such as HBL, UBL, Bank AL Habib, and Standard Chartered Pakistan. These are excellent for personal banking, but they are not a replacement for a UAE corporate business account if you're operating a UAE-registered company.
My recommendation is to avoid applying to multiple banks without a strategy. Choosing the right bank based on your business activity and preparing a strong compliance file usually leads to a much smoother account opening experience.
