Hi, I'm Daniel from Germany. I'm planning to set up a company in the UAE, but I won't be travelling there immediately. Can I open a UAE business bank account as a non-resident without visiting in person?

Hi, I'm Shilpa from the Banking Team at DhanGuard. Yes, it's possible in certain cases, but it depends on the bank you choose and your company structure. While some digital-first banking platforms support remote onboarding, many traditional UAE banks still prefer at least one in-person meeting before activating a business bank account.

The first requirement is that you must have a legally registered UAE company, whether it's a Free Zone or Mainland business.

For remote account opening, banks typically ask for:

  • A valid UAE trade license.
  • Certificate of Incorporation and Memorandum & Articles of Association (MOA/AOA).
  • A business plan explaining your activities and expected transactions.
  • Clear passport copies and proof of your residential address in your home country.

Some digital banking platforms may complete identity verification through video calls, secure document uploads, or other digital KYC processes, making it easier for overseas entrepreneurs to begin the banking process without travelling immediately.

That said, non-resident applications usually go through more detailed compliance checks. Banks often request additional information about the source of funds, business model, expected turnover, and international transactions before making a final decision.

We've recently worked with an entrepreneur based in Europe who incorporated a UAE Free Zone company while remaining overseas. By choosing a digital-friendly banking solution and preparing a complete compliance file from the beginning, most of the onboarding process was completed remotely, with only minimal additional verification required before the account became fully operational.

If you're planning to apply as a non-resident, my advice is to prepare a strong documentation package from day one. A clear business profile, complete KYC documents, and transparent source-of-funds evidence can significantly improve your chances of a smooth approval process.
