Hi, I'm Maria from Spain. I'm planning to register a Free Zone company in the UAE as a sole owner. Before I begin the application, what documents should I keep ready?
Hi Maria,
The document requirements are quite straightforward for most Free Zone company registrations. If you prepare everything in advance, the application process is usually much smoother.
For an individual shareholder, you'll generally need:
- A valid passport (with at least six months' validity).
- A recent passport-size photograph.
- A completed application form with your selected business activities.
- UAE visa or entry stamp (if you're already in the UAE).
- A No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your current employer, if you're working in the UAE on an employment visa and the Free Zone requires it.
- Proof of your residential address, such as a recent utility bill or bank statement, if requested by the Free Zone Authority.
If you're opening the company through an existing corporate entity, additional documents are usually required, including:
- Parent company trade licence or registration certificate.
- Certificate of Incorporation.
- Memorandum and Articles of Association (MOA & AOA).
- Board Resolution approving the formation of the UAE company and appointing the authorised representative.
Some Free Zones may also request a brief business plan, especially for consultancy, industrial, or regulated activities. Once your application is approved, the Free Zone will issue your office lease or flexi-desk agreement as part of the licensing process.
Before you submit your documents, I'd recommend checking the specific requirements of the Free Zone you've selected. While the core documents are almost the same across the UAE, some authorities may ask for additional paperwork depending on your nationality, business activity, or ownership structure.
