Hi, I’m Omar Khan from the UK. I have recently incorporated a company in Dubai and I’m planning to open an Emirates Islamic Business Account. Could you please guide me on the documents required for the account opening process? I want to make sure I prepare everything correctly before approaching the bank.

I’m Kuldeep, Head of the Banking Team at DhanGuard. I regularly assist entrepreneurs and international investors with UAE business banking requirements, including documentation preparation and account opening processes.

For an Emirates Islamic Business Account, the bank generally requires a combination of company documents, shareholder KYC documents, and proof of business activity. The exact requirements can vary depending on your company structure, license type, and ownership profile, but typically you will need:

Company Documents

  • Completed Business Account Opening Form.
  • Valid UAE Trade License or Commercial/E-commerce License (for Free Zone companies).
  • Certificate of Incorporation.
  • Memorandum of Association (MOA) / Articles of Association (AOA) or partnership agreement.
  • Share Certificate(s).
  • Chamber of Commerce Certificate (where applicable).
  • Proof of UAE business address, such as Ejari, tenancy contract, or utility bill.
  • Board Resolution or authorization letter for opening and operating the account (if required).

Shareholder & Authorized Signatory Documents

  • Valid passport copies.
  • Emirates ID copies (for UAE residents).
  • Residence Visa copies.
  • CV or professional background details of shareholders, directors, and authorized signatories.

These documents are generally required for shareholders holding more than 10% ownership, directors, and individuals authorized to operate the account.

Additional Business Supporting Documents

  • Company profile or business plan explaining your activities.
  • Existing company bank statements (for operating businesses).
  • Owner's personal bank statements (for newly established companies).
  • Trade contracts, supplier invoices, or client details to demonstrate business operations.

All original documents may need to be presented to the bank for verification during the application process.

One important point for entrepreneurs is that banks don't only review the legal registration of a company; they also evaluate the nature of business activity, source of funds, and expected transactions. Preparing proper supporting documents in advance can help avoid unnecessary delays during the compliance review.

Hi,

To open an Emirates Islamic Business Account, you'll need a combination of company documents, identification papers, and supporting information for the bank's KYC and compliance checks.

Company & Legal Documents

You should generally prepare:

  • Valid UAE Trade License or Commercial Registration
  • Memorandum and Articles of Association (MOA/AOA) or partnership documents
  • Share certificate, where applicable
  • Chamber of Commerce certificate, where applicable
  • Board resolution or authorization letter approving the account opening
  • Proof of business address, such as an Ejari or office lease
  • A brief company profile or business presentation

Identification Documents

The bank may require documents for all owners, partners, directors, and authorised signatories, including:

  • Valid passport copies
  • UAE residence visa copies for non-GCC residents
  • Valid Emirates IDs for UAE-resident partners and signatories

Additional Verification

Depending on your company and business profile, Emirates Islamic may also request:

  • Recent company or personal bank statements
  • FATCA/CRS self-certification forms
  • Proof of source of funds
  • Initial business contracts, invoices, purchase orders, or other evidence of genuine business activity, particularly for newer companies

One thing I recommend is preparing a clear company profile that explains what your business does, who your customers are, expected transaction volumes, and where your funds will come from. This can make the bank's compliance review much easier.

The final document list can vary depending on your business activity, ownership structure, nationality, and account package, so it's best to confirm the latest requirements with Emirates Islamic before submitting the application.
