Hi, I'm Zubair Khan from Pakistan. I recently established my company in the UAE and I'm interested in opening a UBL Business Bank Account. I understand that part of the application can be started online, but I'd like to know what documents I should prepare before applying. Is there a standard checklist for company and shareholder documents?
I’m Shilpa from DhanGuard Consultancy, and I've assisted many business owners with preparing documentation for UAE business bank accounts. One thing I've learned is that having a complete file before you start the application can make the process much smoother.
Although you can initiate the application through the UBL Business Bank Account digital platform, the bank generally requires a follow-up branch visit or a meeting with a relationship manager before the account is opened.
Here's the documentation that is commonly requested:
Company Registration Documents
- Valid Trade License or Commercial License.
- Certificate of Incorporation or Commercial Register Extract.
- Memorandum of Association (MOA) or Articles of Association (AOA).
- Share Certificate(s) showing the company's ownership structure.
- Board Resolution or Power of Attorney authorizing the account opening and approved signatories.
Shareholder & KYC Documents
For all partners, shareholders, and authorized signatories, you'll generally need:
- Passport copy (with at least six months' validity).
- UAE Residence Visa page (if applicable).
- Emirates ID (front and back) for UAE residents.
- Proof of residential address, such as a recent utility bill or tenancy contract.
- Personal bank statements for the last 3–6 months.
Business & Financial Documents
To help the bank understand your business operations, you may also be asked to submit:
- Company profile or business plan.
- Sample invoices, purchase orders, or supplier/customer contracts.
- Corporate bank statements for the last 3–6 months (if the business has an existing banking relationship).
- Ejari or tenancy contract as proof of your UAE business address.
A practical tip I often share with clients is not to wait until the bank asks for supporting documents. Preparing your business profile, contracts, and financial records in advance helps demonstrate that your business is active and well-organized, which can make the compliance review more efficient.
To open a UBL (United Bank Limited) Business Bank Account in the UAE, you need to provide your company registration documents, identification papers for the owners and authorized signatories, and evidence that your business is genuine and operational.
You can start the process digitally through UBL UAE Business Banking. However, depending on your company profile, UBL may require a follow-up branch visit or meeting with a relationship manager before the corporate account is finalized.
Required Company Documents
- Trade License: Valid UAE mainland or Free Zone trade license.
- MOA/AOA: Memorandum and Articles of Association showing the company's legal structure and ownership.
- Certificate of Incorporation: Company registration or incorporation certificate.
- Share Certificates: Documents confirming the ownership of the company, where applicable.
- Board Resolution: Authorization for opening the bank account and identifying the approved signatories.
KYC & Identification Documents
- Passports: Copies of passports for all shareholders, directors, partners, and authorized signatories.
- Residence Visa: UAE residence visa copies for relevant owners and signatories.
- Emirates ID: Valid Emirates IDs for UAE-resident shareholders and authorized signatories.
- Proof of Address: Residential address documentation may also be requested for key individuals.
Business & Operational Proof
UBL may also want to understand how your company operates, particularly for newly established businesses. You may need to provide:
- Ejari or Office Lease: Proof of your company's physical business address.
- Company Profile: A clear overview of your business activities, products or services, customers, and suppliers.
- Bank Statements: Typically 3–6 months of existing personal or corporate statements, where available.
- Sample Invoices or Contracts: Documents demonstrating actual or expected business activity.
One important point is that starting an application online does not necessarily mean the entire UBL corporate account-opening process will be completed online. The bank may request additional documents, clarification, or a face-to-face meeting as part of its KYC and compliance review.
For a new UAE company, I would recommend preparing your company profile, business model, source-of-funds information, and supporting contracts or invoices along with the standard incorporation documents. This gives the bank a clearer picture of the business and can make the review process smoother.
