Hi, I'm Hassan Malik from Bahrain. I'm planning to open a UBL Business Bank Account for my UAE company. I've already gathered most of my company documents and would like to know how long the account opening process usually takes. Does starting the application online make the process any faster?

I’m Shilpa from DhanGuard Consultancy, and the timeline for opening a UBL Business Bank Account can vary depending on your company's profile and how quickly the required documents are verified.

In most cases, if you initiate the application online, you can expect the overall process to take around 2 to 3 weeks. However, not every application follows the same timeline.

For example:

  • Simple applications with complete documentation and a straightforward ownership structure may be processed in a few days to one week.
  • Companies with multiple shareholders, overseas owners, or more complex business activities usually require additional compliance checks, which can extend the process beyond two weeks.

It's also worth noting that the online application is only the starting point. After your enquiry or application is submitted, a UBL Relationship Manager will normally contact you to guide you through the next steps. Before the account can be activated, you'll typically need to visit a UAE branch so the bank can verify the original documents and complete the formalities.

To avoid unnecessary delays, I always recommend keeping these documents ready before you apply:

  • Trade License.
  • Certificate of Incorporation.
  • Memorandum of Association (MOA).
  • Passport and Emirates ID copies of the shareholders and authorized signatories.
  • Six months of corporate bank statements, where applicable.

Another factor to consider is the account package you choose. Depending on the business account tier, UBL generally requires businesses to maintain an average balance ranging from AED 25,000 to AED 100,000*.

If you're looking to speed things up, you can also enquire with one of UBL's 7-day banking branches, which are available at selected locations in the UAE to assist with business banking enquiries and customer support.

Opening a UBL (United Bank Limited) Business Bank Account in the UAE typically takes around 2 to 3 weeks, provided your documentation is complete and your business profile does not require additional compliance checks.

It is important to note that UBL does not generally offer a completely digital end-to-end corporate account opening process. You can begin the enquiry or document submission online, but an authorized signatory may need to visit a UAE branch for final verification and signing.

Typical Timeline

Initial Application & KYC Review: 3–5 Business Days
The bank initially reviews your company information, ownership structure, business activity, and submitted documents.

Branch Verification & Signing: 1 Visit
Authorized signatories may need to visit a UBL branch to complete identity verification, review original documents, and sign the required account-opening forms.

Final Approval & Activation: 1–2 Weeks
After the verification stage, the bank completes its compliance review and, once approved, activates the account and provides access to the relevant digital banking facilities.

What Can Cause Delays?

The actual timeline can vary depending on your company's profile. Common reasons for delays include:

  • Missing or outdated Trade License or corporate documents
  • Incomplete shareholder or UBO information
  • Missing proof of address
  • Complex ownership structures
  • Businesses involving multiple jurisdictions
  • Additional questions about the company's source of funds or expected transactions

For a straightforward UAE company with a complete document file and a clear business model, the 2–3 week timeframe is a reasonable expectation. However, the final approval timeline remains subject to UBL's internal KYC and compliance assessment.
