Hi, I'm Maria Gonzalez from Spain. I don't need to set up a company or apply for a UAE residence visa at the moment. I simply want to have a bank account in the UAE for managing my international finances. Is that possible?
I’m Kuldeep, Head of the Banking Team at DhanGuard. Yes, it is possible to open a UAE bank account without having a company or residence visa, but it would generally be opened as a non-resident bank account.
Non-resident accounts are designed for individuals who live outside the UAE but want to maintain a banking relationship in the country for purposes such as international investments, wealth management, or holding funds.
That said, banks will still carry out a detailed compliance review before approving the application. You'll usually be asked to provide documents such as:
- A valid passport.
- Proof of your residential address in your home country.
- Bank statements from your existing bank.
- Evidence of your source of income or source of funds.
- Any additional documents the bank requires based on your financial profile.
Keep in mind that non-resident accounts are different from resident accounts. Some banks may limit certain services, and the eligibility criteria can vary depending on the institution and your nationality.
If your long-term plan is to start a business in the UAE, opening a company and obtaining residency can provide access to a wider range of banking products. However, if your only requirement is a UAE bank account, a non-resident account may be the right solution, provided you meet the bank's onboarding requirements.
At DhanGuard, we regularly assist international clients in understanding which banks accept non-resident applications and help prepare the documentation to improve the chances of a smooth approval.
