Hi I am Rohan Malhotra. I have recently opened a UAE company with five employees. I want to pay my monthly salaries directly from the company's business bank account while staying compliant with WPS. Can he do this?

Yes. You can process Wage Protection System (WPS) salary payments directly from your UAE business bank account, provided your bank is an authorized WPS agent and supports WPS salary processing. WPS is the UAE's system for electronically transferring employee salaries in accordance with registered employment and payroll records.

How WPS Salary Transfers Work

The process generally involves these steps:

  • Confirm WPS support: First, check whether your UAE corporate bank is an authorized WPS provider and request activation for your business account if it has not already been enabled.
  • Prepare the SIF file: Your payroll system generates a Salary Information File (SIF) containing employee salary details. The information should correspond with the employees' registered MOHRE contracts and payroll records.
  • Upload through corporate banking: Once the SIF is prepared, upload it through your bank's corporate online banking platform and authorize the salary payment.
  • Fund the account: Make sure sufficient funds are available in the business bank account before submitting the WPS file so that the salaries can be processed without payment failures.
  • Monitor the payment: Keep the payment confirmation and payroll records for your company's accounting and compliance records.

For you, the key point is that opening a UAE business bank account alone does not automatically activate WPS. He should confirm WPS availability with his bank and complete the required registration or activation before processing employee salaries.

It is also important to ensure that employee information, salary amounts and MOHRE records are accurate before submitting each SIF file. Errors or insufficient funds can delay salary payments and create compliance issues.
