Hi I'm Michael from Canada. I own a RAK ICC offshore company, but I don't live in the UAE. Can I still open a UAE business bank account as a non-resident?

Hi Michael,

Yes, it's possible to open a UAE business bank account for an offshore company even if you're a non-resident. However, compared to mainland or free zone companies, offshore entities go through a much more detailed compliance review, so it's important to be well prepared before applying.

Banks will first verify that your company is incorporated through a recognized offshore jurisdiction, such as RAK ICC or JAFZA Offshore. They'll then want to understand why the company has been established, how it will operate, and where the funds and transactions will originate.

You should be ready with documents such as:

  • Certificate of Incorporation.
  • Memorandum and Articles of Association.
  • Share certificates and board resolution authorizing the account opening.
  • Passport copies, proof of residential address, and source of funds for all shareholders and directors.

Some banks may also request a meeting with the authorised signatory. While a few institutions support video verification for suitable cases, many still prefer an in-person meeting before activating the account.

One piece of advice I'd give is to choose your bank carefully. Not every UAE bank has the same appetite for offshore companies, especially when the shareholders are non-residents. Starting with a bank that regularly works with international corporate structures can save considerable time and reduce unnecessary back-and-forth during the application process.
