Hi, I'm Amir Hussain from Bangladesh. I'm in the process of setting up my company in the UAE, but my trade license is still being processed. I want to save time by applying for a business bank account now. Is it possible to open the account before my trade license is issued?
@amir Short Answer - NO. A valid trade license is required to open a corporate bank account in the UAE. Banks use it to verify that your company is legally registered.
The good news is that we can help you prepare all the required documents in advance, so you can apply as soon as your trade license is issued, helping speed up the process.
I’m Kuldeep, Head of the Banking Team at DhanGuard, and this is something many first-time entrepreneurs ask when they're eager to get their business up and running.
The short answer is no. UAE banks will not open a corporate business bank account until your company has been legally incorporated and a valid trade license has been issued.
The trade license is one of the bank's primary KYC requirements because it confirms that your business is officially registered and authorized to operate in the UAE. Without it, the bank cannot begin the formal account opening process.
Once your trade license is available, you'll generally be asked to provide:
Company Documents
- Valid UAE Trade License.
- Certificate of Incorporation.
- Memorandum of Association (MOA).
Shareholder Identification
- Passport copies of all shareholders and authorized signatories.
- UAE Residence Visas (where applicable).
- Emirates IDs for UAE residents.
Business Address
- Proof of your registered office, such as an Ejari for Mainland companies or a lease agreement issued by your Free Zone authority.
Financial Information
- Six months of personal bank statements for the shareholders.
- A business plan or summary explaining your company's activities and expected banking transactions.
Although you can't submit a corporate banking application before receiving your trade license, you can prepare everything else in advance. Many company formation authorities in the UAE also offer bundled setup packages, allowing you to process your trade license, establishment card, and banking documentation simultaneously. This means that once your license is issued, your banking application can move forward much more quickly.
In my experience, businesses that prepare their documents during the company formation stage usually complete the banking process much faster than those who wait until after incorporation to start gathering paperwork.
