Hi, I'm Chinedu from Nigeria. I'm planning to register a company in the UAE. Are there banks that accept Nigerian-owned businesses easily?

Hi Chinedu,

Yes, Nigerian-owned businesses can open business bank accounts in the UAE, and many entrepreneurs successfully do so every year. However, approval is based on your company's compliance profile rather than nationality. Banks follow strict KYC (Know Your Customer) and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) procedures for all international business owners.

Some of the banks that commonly work with eligible foreign-owned businesses include Emirates NBD, RAKBANK, Mashreq, and digital platforms like Wio Business. The right choice depends on your business activity, expected transaction volumes, and company structure.

To improve your chances of approval, banks typically expect:

  • A valid UAE Trade License (Mainland or Free Zone).
  • A clear explanation of your business activities.
  • Source of funds supported by bank statements, contracts, or invoices.
  • A registered business address in the UAE.
  • A professional business profile outlining your customers, suppliers, and expected transactions.

My advice is to focus on building a strong compliance file from the beginning. A transparent business model and complete documentation usually have a much bigger impact on approval than your nationality.
