How many bank statements/months of trading history do banks want from new companies?

Hi, I'm Ahmed Khan from Pakistan. I have just incorporated my company in the UAE and I’m preparing to apply for a corporate bank account. Since my company has not started operations yet, I don’t have any business transactions or company bank statements. Will the bank still ask for statements, and if yes, how many months of history do they usually require?

I’m Kuldeep, Head of the Banking Team at DhanGuard. This is a very practical concern for new entrepreneurs because a newly formed company obviously cannot show years of business activity.

The requirement depends on whether your company has already started trading or is still at the setup stage.

For Newly Established Companies (No Trading History)

If your company is newly incorporated and has no corporate banking history, UAE banks usually review the financial background of the shareholders and owners instead.

Typically, you may be asked to provide:

  • 3 to 6 months of personal bank statements of key shareholders or authorized signatories.
  • Proof explaining the source of your initial business funds.
  • A company profile or business plan explaining your expected activities and revenue model.

The bank uses this information to understand your financial credibility and whether your expected business activity matches your profile.

For Companies Already Operating

If your company has started trading, banks generally prefer to see actual business performance. In such cases, they may request:

  • Around 6 months of company bank statements.
  • Client contracts or purchase orders.
  • Supplier invoices.
  • Sales invoices or proof of ongoing operations.

For businesses applying for financing rather than just opening an account, the requirements are usually stricter. Banks and lenders may review 6 to 12 months of business statements, along with financial records and other supporting documents.

During statement reviews, banks are not only checking the balance. They also analyze:

  • Whether the source of funds is clear and traceable.
  • Whether transactions match the activity mentioned on your trade license.
  • Whether the business demonstrates stable and genuine operations.

One point I always share with new business owners is that having no trading history does not automatically prevent you from opening a UAE business account. The key is presenting a clear business model, transparent source of funds, and complete documentation so the bank can confidently assess your profile.
