Hi, I'm Zubair from the UK. My UAE company receives payments in USD, EUR, and GBP from international clients. I'd like to avoid losing money on currency conversions every time I receive a payment. How can I open a multi-currency business bank account in the UAE?
Hi Zubair,
If your business deals with international clients or suppliers, a multi-currency business account is one of the smartest banking decisions you can make. It allows you to receive, hold, and pay in different currencies without converting every transaction into AED.
Several UAE banks, including Emirates NBD, Mashreq, and ADCB, offer multi-currency business banking solutions. There are also digital banking platforms that support currencies such as USD, EUR, and GBP, making international business much more efficient.
To open the account, you'll generally need:
- A valid UAE trade licence.
- Certificate of Incorporation and Memorandum & Articles of Association (MoA/AoA).
- Passport and Emirates ID copies of all shareholders and directors.
- Your office lease (such as Ejari) and a brief business profile or business plan.
Once you've selected the right bank, you'll submit the application either online or through a business banking branch. The bank will carry out its compliance and AML review, which can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks depending on your business activity and ownership structure. If the account has a minimum balance requirement, you'll need to fund it before the multi-currency facilities become fully active.
Before choosing a bank, I'd also suggest comparing the currencies supported, international transfer charges, exchange rates, and whether you can manage multiple currency balances from a single online banking platform. Those factors often make a much bigger difference than the business bank account opening process itself.
