Hi, I'm Nicolas from France. My UAE company invoices clients in USD, pays some suppliers in EUR, and also has local expenses in AED. Can I hold all three currencies in one business bank account, or do I need separate accounts?

Hi Nicolas,

I'm Sagar Joshi, and this is a question I hear quite often from businesses that trade internationally.

The good news is yes, many UAE banks offer true multi-currency business accounts, allowing you to hold AED, USD, EUR, and sometimes even GBP under a single corporate banking relationship. Instead of opening separate business bank accounts, you'll typically receive dedicated currency sub-accounts or wallets linked to your main company profile.

This means that if a customer pays you in USD or EUR, the funds can remain in that currency until you decide to convert or use them. You're not forced to convert every incoming payment into AED immediately.

Some of the banks that provide multi-currency corporate banking solutions include:

  • First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) – Suitable for businesses with regular international transactions.
  • Emirates NBD – Offers multi-currency current accounts for corporate clients.
  • ADCB – Supports major foreign currencies for eligible business accounts.
  • Wio Business and other licensed digital banking platforms – Popular with startups and SMEs looking for app-based banking with lower balance requirements.

One thing to pay close attention to is the type of account you're opening. Some standard business accounts can receive foreign currency transfers, but they automatically convert the money into AED using the bank's exchange rate. If you regularly invoice clients in USD or EUR, make sure you're applying for a true multi-currency account that allows you to hold native currency balances.

Also keep in mind that traditional banks often require an average monthly balance, commonly between AED 25,000* and AED 50,000* (or the equivalent in foreign currency), to avoid monthly maintenance charges. Digital business banking platforms may offer more flexible requirements depending on the package you choose.

If your business deals with international suppliers or clients every month, a genuine multi-currency account can help reduce unnecessary conversion costs and make your cash flow much easier to manage.
