Hi, I'm Beatriz from Brazil. I'm planning to register a mainland company in Dubai this year. What are the main steps and documents required, and how long does the process usually take?

Hi Beatriz,

I'm Shilpa, and this is one of the most common questions I receive from entrepreneurs who are exploring business opportunities in Dubai.

Setting up a mainland company in Dubai is a structured process managed by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET). For most business activities, 100% foreign ownership is now permitted, and if all your documents are ready, the incorporation process is typically completed within 7 to 14 working days.

The journey generally looks like this:

  • Choose your business activity by deciding whether you'll operate a commercial, professional, or industrial business.
  • Reserve your trade name through the DET, ensuring it complies with the UAE's naming regulations.
  • Obtain initial approval, which confirms that the government has no objection to your proposed business.
  • Lease a physical office and register the tenancy contract through Ejari, as a mainland company requires a registered business address.
  • Prepare the legal documentation, including the Memorandum of Association (MOA) and any other incorporation documents required for your business structure.
  • Submit the final application along with the applicable government fees to receive your mainland trade licence.

To complete the registration, you'll normally need:

  • Valid passport copies for all shareholders.
  • UAE residence visa or entry stamp (where applicable).
  • A registered office lease through Ejari.
  • Any external approvals required for regulated business activities, such as healthcare, education, food, or engineering services.

Before you begin, it's worth taking some time to select the correct business activity. The activity you choose influences your licensing requirements, future banking process, visa eligibility, and any additional approvals that may be needed as your business grows.
